(E)nter a message
Messages are like letters which you send through the post office.
Entering a message allows you to communicate, electronically, with other
callers on the BBS without the delays associated with cards and letters.
Subcommands
User Name = Name or user id that the message will be addressed to
Subject = 53 characters to describe the content of the message
Security = Who can read the message, the following are valid
security values:
D = Pack-out date to remove the message from the board
G = Group password, requires a password to read
N = No security, that is anyone can read the message
R = Receiver is the only one(s) who can read the message
S = Sender password required to Kill message, anyone can read
the message
Return-
Receipt = Lets you know if the receiver has read the message you sent
Echo = If echo-mail is supported, allows messages to be shared
between several different bulletin board systems
Routing = How to route the message if using echo-mail
Editor = Editor to use to create messages, valid responses are:
Y = Use the full-screen editor to enter your message
N = Use the line-editor editor to enter your message.
U = Upload messages from you computer
Commands Available While In A Message Editor
A = Abort the current message entry and return to the command prompt
C = Edit message using line-editor
D = Delete a line by line number (use CTRL-Y to delete the current line
if using the full-screen editor)
E = Edit a line using the line number and old;new for replacement
F = Edit message using full-screen editor
H = Access on-line help for entering a message
I = Insert a line after specified line number, insertion stops when
you press R on a blank line. In the full-screen editor, use C-N to
insert a new line in the message.
L = List current message when using the line editor
Q = Quote from the original message to make the reply clearer
NOTE: Local users may also quote a message by using
PCBoard's scroll back feature. For more information
about using PCBoard's scroll-back to quote message see
the REPLY user command.
S = Save message to message base
SA = Save message and attach a file. When a file is attached to a
message users that can read the message can also flag the file
for download. Using this method, two or more individuals can
share a file that might be relevant to the message being entered.
When you attach a file, you will be asked for a protocol to use
and also for the filename. If the transfer is successful, the
file will be attached and the message will be saved. If the
upload is not successful, you will be returned to the message
command prompt.
SC = Carbon copy message to other users
SN = Save reply to message and goto next message
SK = Save message and kill/delete original
U = Upload a prepared message into the message editor
